So I went back to work on Thursday, had a semi-normal day and came home as usual.
Later that night, about 5 AM. our alarm clocks beeped off, and the fan we sleep with turned off. Our grid lost power, the weight of the ice and snow on the power lines was just too much.
We all got up, Moose yelled for me and I went in to him telling me “they turned my nite light off...” so I explained about the ice and snow and electricity, and he turned over and went back to sleep. Unfortunately it wasn’t that easy for Cory and I. We both crawled back into bed, kept awake by our worries.
Moose and I got up in the morning, later than usual and got ready by candlelight. I am quite positive that is the most flattering light ever to put make up on by, however when I got to work I resembled a five dollar hooker with my blush and eyeshadow.
We got Cinimini’s for breakfast and I started making phone calls. Nana was already staying with Mimi, but she was happy to have Moose and Cory and I if we wanted. Cory decided we had to stay to defend the house, because my Care Bear collection and his Xbox are obvious attractants for cat burglars.
Luckily, because of our recent heater trouble, we already had a kerosene heater, and kerosene. I talked to Cory and turns out a friend of ours lost power early in the storm, waited in line at Lowe’s to get a generator, returned home to their power being turned on. So, they were lending us their generator. I cannot thank them enough, but I’m trying with a homemade apple pie this weekend.
I came home that day for lunch, and ended up packing a bag for Moose to stay with Mimi. Of course it wasn’t back on! But one could hope...
I dropped Moose off at Mimi’s, grabbed a shower, and stole some iced sugar cookies. Mimi gave me four, and made me promise to give two to Cory, I was like, “how is he going to know?” and she replied she would call him later to make sure I gave him his!
I returned home to sub-zero temps and darkness! Cory had just got the generator hooked up outside, and was running extension cords throughout the house. Then we plugged in the vital things, like my floor lamp for reading, and Cory’s Xbox and TV. You know, the bare essentials.
The next day I spent almost all day at Mimi’s, then I returned home that afternoon to meet Cory and go get more kerosene and another heater. Luckily we found both pretty easily. We were quite warm that night. Sunday was pretty much the same, each time I returned to the house I hoped the power would be back on. But to no avail.
Sunday night we returned home from Mimi’s with Moose. He really did just fine, we explained about the candles and it was plenty warm so he probably didn’t notice a thing. He went to bed normally, and we got up Monday morning and all got ready by candlelight again. I held off on the blush this time.
Monday night when we got home I passed a Power Company truck a court up and it was the most beautiful sight I have ever seen. Our power returned at approximately 7 PM on Monday. It is so true, I swear I appreciated it before, but it is so wonderful I cannot express! Power is wonderful!

Be... erm, nice. My fragile ego can't take too much honesty. Seriously though, I do love comments. Please tell me what you think!
